The history and culture of India is dynamic and goes back to the beginning of human civilization. It begins with the mystical culture of the Indus Valley and continues to the farming community in southern India.

Meaning of Mohenjodaro:
Mohenjodaro was indeed a mysterious city. When the city was excavated, many human skeletons were found there. That’s why this city is called Mohenjodaro. The Sindhi word Mohenjodaro literally means ‘hill of the dead’. The city was discovered by Charles Mason in 1842 at a distance of about 5000 km on the banks of the Indus River in Pakistan. He had seen this place.
But for some reason this mystery was not solved at that time. However, during 1922, under the leadership of Rakhaldas Banerjee and Dayaram Sahni, excavations began here and the astonishing history of India and its people, which was 4,600 years old, came to the fore.
According to Dr. Laxmanswaroop Ramchandra, the founder of this culture was Arya, while according to Rakhaldas Banerjee, this culture was created by Dravidians. But many scholars agree that the Dravidians played an important role in developing this culture.
Throughout the history of India, there has been a continuous integration of people from many cultures across India. Evidence suggests that the use of iron, copper and other metals was prevalent in the Indian subcontinent from a very early age, indicating the progress made by this part of the world. By the end of the fourth millennium, India had emerged as a region of highly developed civilization.
Indus/Harappan-Culture:
The history of India predates the birth of the Indus Valley Civilization, and is more closely related to the Harappan/Indus Civilization question. Around 2500 B.C. In the western part of South Asia which is today called Pakistan and West India. The Indus Valley was home to the four largest ancient civilizations: Egypt, Mesopotamia, India and China.
Nothing was known about this civilization until 1920, when the Archaeological Survey of India began excavations of the Indus Valley, excavating the remains of two ancient cities, Mohenjodaro and Harappa.
Fragments of buildings and other objects such as household articles, weapons of war, gold and silver ornaments, seals, toys, utensils etc. indicate a highly developed civilization that developed in this area about five thousand years ago.
The Indus Valley Civilization was basically an urban civilization, and its inhabitants lived in planned and well-built cities, which were also centers of trade. The remains of Mohenjodaro and Harappa show that these magnificent trading cities were scientifically built and maintained
It had wide roads and a well developed drainage system. The houses were made of solid bricks and had two or more storeys.
Discovery of the Harappan Civilization:
The Harappan civilization is one of the oldest civilizations in the world, along with the civilizations of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. The remains of the Harappan culture are located 20 kilometers from Sahiwal city in Montgomery district of Punjab, Pakistan.
What was the correct name of this city of Indus Civilization at that time, it is a mystery till date. The place where its remains were found was named Harappa, hence this civilization also came to be known as Harappan civilization.
The Harappan civilization was discovered by Dayaram Sahni in 1921. After its discovery, Madhav Swaroop and Martimer Viharal along with Dayaram Sahni started the excavation work of this place on behalf of the Archaeological Department. The Harappan culture is closest to the Ghaggar-Hakra river, which was also known as the Saraswati river in ancient times. That’s why Harappan culture is also known as Saraswati culture.
Harappa and Mohenjodaro, the two major cities of the Indus Valley Civilization, originated in 2600 BC. It is believed to be in the Punjab and Sindh region, close to the eastern Indus River. It was a civilization that had an efficient urban system. The system of drains and toilets was developed in the houses of the people of that time like today’s era. After the discovery of this civilization in the year 1921, hundreds of places of this civilization have been discovered from Himalayas to Punjab.
In 1857, when work was done on the railway line to connect Multan, during this time a large part of the Harappan civilization was destroyed due to the construction of railway lines. Due to which a large part of the Harappan culture was destroyed.
